AMPA Group is first and foremost a story of people.
AMPA (America Palestine Automobile Co) was established in 1933 as an agency for trucks, cars, and cranes. After the establishment of the state, during the austerity period, there was a severe shortage of quality refrigerators in the country – and the founders of the company saw before their eyes a ‘blue-and-white’ factory producing durable refrigerators for every demand.
The company was growing, and its refrigerators were sold all over the country. Legend has it that David Ben-Gurion himself bought a refrigerator for his home, and thanks to his friendship with the company’s founder, the refrigerator arrived earlier than was promised. Paula, Ben Gurion’s excited wife, expressed her joy with the words: “He who has friends needs no favors” – thus inventing the immortal Israeli maxim.
Over the years, Ampa has established additional factories and produced a wide range of products: radio receivers, plastic products, doors and more. In order to enable its industrial operations, the group acquired much real estate and invested in a wide range of funds and companies.
Following some difficult years for the Israeli economy in general and the group in particular, the incoming partners have devised a new strategy. Most of the industrial activity (with the exception of AMRAZ, the plastic bottle blowing factory, which is still operating today) was closed, and the vacant space was utilized for the development of real estate projects.
The group’s new strategy proved itself: On the plot of the original Amcor plant in Tel Aviv, the Electra Tower was built, one of the most impressive and advanced towers in Israel, and additional areas were converted into residential and commercial properties.
In the following two decades Ampa Group kept growing, and is currently leading in several areas of activity:
