I knew Shlomi Fogel, one of the partners, as a child – our brothers were friends. Later, when we were grown up, Shlomi – then a businessman – hired my services as a lawyer, and our relationship was renewed. When Shlomi was interested in acquiring Ampa, he offered me to join him as a partner – and the rest is history.
In my high school years, during the summer holidays, I worked as a cook at the Café Rowell – which was one of the most attractive cafes in Tel-Aviv during the 1960s.
Manara Cliff energy project is very interesting. It is a project that we partner with and take part in its financial aspect. It’s about building two reservoirs, including a turbine the size of a basketball stadium. The success of the project depends on the precision of every detail in the planning and execution – and it will have an impact on the entire country.
Our outstanding achievement as a group is the ability to hold on in any situation. We have gone through hard times – from security incidents such as the twin towers disaster or the second Intifada to the market crashes – when we not only survived, but also promoted the group. We were able to realize the vision we set for ourselves, a shift from industry to real estate, and eventually to create an economic leap.
This success stems from an equally important success – the ability to harness a quality management team. It starts with the partners – our ability to collaborate for so many years – and continues with our ability to delegate authority to the company’s next generation. Entrust the reins to younger managers, enable them to do (and make mistakes), and create genuine motivation and loyalty to the group.
Another achievement is the success of the ‘social experiment’ that we have made: we have assembled, some friends, for the benefit of the business, we have become partners – and we have not only succeeded in generating value from this collaborative work, but also in staying friends. To make such a big change in an organization, one has to work with people and contribute to each other – and we, to my delight, have succeeded.
I like watching football and basketball matches, and in the past, I was a fan of the Maccabi Haifa Football Club.
